
Don Spann
Don Spann, a native of Mississippi, born June 28, 1965 in Lexington, Miss. The son of
Walter and Lenora Spann. He’s married to Cassandra D. Spann and has two children,
Sarah Louise Victoria and Earvin Jamaal.
Educated in the Holmes County Public School System, he received his high school
diploma from Lexington Attendance Center in 1983. He continued his education at
Jackson State University receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication
with a concentration in Radio and TV Broadcasting in 1988. Presently, Spann is a
graduate student in the School of Journalism and Media Studies at Jackson State
University.
Spann worked at WLBT-TV3 for fifteen years as a News & Sports Photojournalist and
currently employed with Nissan North America (Canton Plant) as a Producer/
Videographer.
A strong supportive of giving back to the community and lending support to others,
Spann has volunteered his time as a Youth basketball coach, coaching for five years at the former Southwest Branch YMCA from 1999 to 2001, coaching youth males ages 13–16 in the City of Jackson Summer League in 2005, and in the summer of 2007 served as an assistant coach with the Jackson Lady Warriors AAU Girls basketball team ages 15–17.
Spann also managed a horse stable in the city of Jackson, where he mentored young males in West Jackson, giving them the opportunity to learn about horses and showing them opportunities that are in animal medicine. This gave them jobs to perform at the stable and to build work ethics and accountability.
Spann has volunteered his time to the Habitat for Humanity Organizations helping build homes for needed families in Jackson and Canton, Miss. He has served as a Sunday school teacher where he has helped many young people grow in the word of God and taught several seminars on leadership.
Spann is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. where he serves as Basileus, and he’s mentoring at Huey Porter Middle School in Canton, MS.
Spann is a strong believer in family values. He is a devoted, motivating, encouraging, supportive husband and father to his wife and children. He believes in being an example to his family and young people by fulfilling his commitments and responsibilities as a man.
